"When I started to
appreciate the real value of simplicity and the way that people can be
happy in their environment, my senses opened to their beliefs, and my
respect for them too. Nature is a source of good energy and it´s nice that
we are now aware of ecology and a respect for nature. With this trip, we
will learn to love and appreciate what we
have, and enjoy every day life a little bit more."

CAMINO HUANCA - 5 DAYS
The Andean Mountains and their people have been always very interesting and important to anthropologists and travelers alike. The mountain trips are for those who not only want to travel to take nice pictures but who want to feel that they actually learn about our special Andean life. This trip is a very unique opportunity for any traveler to LIVE a real Andean Experience.
FIRST
DAY:
After a good breakfast and a short information we leave Huancayo (alt. 3240m) for 2 hours up to 4200m to our trekking point. From here we walk a small trail to the glacial lakes of the Huaytapallana Snowy Mountains. The walk is not hard, it’s mostly downhill ... a small rest, then we continue up to a second lake, a magic turquoise lake below the snow peaks. After lunch we continue to our camping point later take a small excursion to the glacier point, where could see how beliefs still survive… The stone tables are sometimes full of offers including fruits, wine, flowers, etc. Back at the tents we have dinner and warm up with a hot drink, then fall asleep under the stars and our magic mountains.
SECOND DAY:
This is a hard trek. After a good energetic breakfast we take our backpacks. Our porters will help to carry some of our packs to our second campsite, while we take a "short cut" up to 4,800 mts. and down the mountains. This is a bit demanding but after a good 2 hours up, our snacks for lunch at the summit will be more enjoyable. The way down is a bit steep so we will take our time. Some curious llamas will be around the magnificent open Andean landscape. Arriving at our second campsite we can enjoy a good dinner with the company of our shepherd friends who live next to the glacial lakes. This night we will sleep in the rustic but memorable one thousand star lama shepherds homestay.
THIRD DAY:
We leave early, packing our backpacks onto llamas to make our trek easier. Walking up to 4000 mts, you will find that the ups and downs of the hilly mountains are not that difficult, but you will be glad that you are not carrying your backpacks! Lunch will be served at a convenient stop, plus a nice hot soup upon arrival at the house of friends below Chuspi lake and glaciers. This place and lifestyle of mountain shepherds is a perfect example of how people with simple life seem to enjoy life more with just the basics. Our dinner will be cooked in a fire place using llama and cow dung as fuel!
FOURTH DAY:
Today we will start moving slowly up along the glaciers enjoying the full show that mountain weather mostly provides…rain, snow, hailing and mist are part of the experience. After some 3 hours we can enjoy a lunch with a view over a couple of high passes over 4200mts.
Rough landscape and the feeling of being in a trail made just for us and our llamas will give to us this special touch. Today we can enjoy a diverse landscape arriving at about 5 pm to another fabulous location near a small lake with some trout that we might flavor!
FIFTH DAY:
We leave our friendly shepherds home after a good breakfast, a bit going up ,enjoying the morning light and arriving after 1 hour to the last pass 4.100mts.
We start going down for a short time and stop for a visit and a snack to a hidden spot where again we can enjoy a breathtaking views, rock formations and the last glaciers looking at us.
We continue down while the landscape turns green and waterfalls along the sides feed our friendly river which comes down us until the Andean village of Racracalla where we will arrive on good time for lunch. At this point it is time to say good bye to our llama Shepherds who have been with us sharing this wonderful experience.
We take local transport to Comas and then on to Conception and finally to Huancayo completing our circle.
We end our trip with a super meal at La Cabaña with a nice calientito to keep our hearts and memories warm…. Until the next adventure.
