INCAS DEL PERU DAY TRIPS

Enjoy day trips through the Mantaro Valley, exploring craft villages, historical places and the best spots for fun and eating traditional food ...

ARTESAN CIRCUIT

We leave Huancayo at 9 a.m. Our first stop will be a suprising little spot ... Parque de la Identidad, a nice Stone-Crafted Park. Here we enjoy the legends and traditions of the Mantaro Valley. The Park?s style is a type of Gaudi Arquitecture, mixed with Peruvian Craft.

We then go towards Cochas, a village famous for its Carved Gourds. We will visit the families who work these special crafts and will watch a demonstration of their work.

Next stop is Hualhuas, a village of weavers, and we can see the different kinds of tapestries, blankets and sweaters. You will learn, from the artesans, about native cameloids, fibres and wools, as well as natural dyes and spinning techniques.

Leaving Hualhuas we will travel to San Jeronimo, where the Silverwork is the specialty of this village and we will see a skillful demonstration by Peruvian hands.

A fun morning of crafts and culture gone, we travel to Ingenio to enjoy some good trout. There are many varieties of delicious trout dishes and we are in the valley of the producers of the freshest trout lunch!

Now we go to a historical place ... The Ocopa Monastery, the starting point of the missions to the jungle by the Franciscan Monks, commencing in 1725. Here is your chance to understand how religion has influenced our culture, leaving a deep mark in our history.

We leave Ocopa, making our way back to Huancayo, ending our circuit at La Caba񡮦lt;/p> This full day guided excursions will show you the real lives of the people of our Mantaro Valley. Throughout the day, you will have the opportunity to buy works from the craftspeople themselves.

Alternatively we can arrange for the artesans to bring a number of items to our office and you can select and pay for them there as well.

HISTORICAL CIRCUIT

Our first visit is to the ARCHAEOLOGICAL RUINS OF WARIVILCA, 7 km to the south of the city of Huancayo. As the main archaeological complex of the Mantaro Valley, it displays splendid architecture for its time of construction.

We will then travel through leafy eucalyptus trees, toward the town of CHUPACA (Ciudad Her󩣡, where the battle of Carato took place, during the war with Chile). Then on to AHUAC, where we will visit the beautiful Lagoon of ѡhuimpuquio. From here we will visit the Archaeological Remains of Arwaturo, which were used as colcas, or storage deposits during historic times.

Next we go to JAUJA, the first Capital of Peru. Founded by Francisco Pizarro, this area has a pleasant climate, which is known to assist with the relief of asthma. We conclude our journey at the Lagoon of Paca, where we will enjoy a delicious trout lunch and a boat ride.

HUAYTAPALLANA - 1 DAY

We will begin our drive along Shullcas River. As we climb the winding road to Acopalca, located at 3500 meters above sea level, we?ll take note of the change in ecology. Here the ichu grass, trees and other vegetation are replaced by curious cactus and bromilieas hanging from the rocky crag of the mountain.

We'll get a taste for the Andean way of life with our Andean friends in the town of Rondapampa. Next we'll continue on the starting point of our trek. The initial portion of our hike is a bit steep. It can take up to an hour to make this climb but we'll be sure to stop intermittently along the way to rest.

After a rest at the first pass we'll trek around the lakes, just enjoying the views. Within two hours we'll have made our way to Cochas Grande, an emerald lake of glacial water. From here we'll climb to the rock walls of Huaytapallana Glacier. It's a steep and challenging climb but not dangerous. Once we reach the glacier line we'll pay our respects to Apu and absorb the view.

As we make our way down the mountain to the trail we'll stop for a snack, continue trekking around the lakes and finally traversing a few hills to make our way back to the starting point.

BIKING 1 DAY EXCURSION

Here we have a bit of an example about our biking trips:

  • Departure: 8 a.m.
  • Return: 6 p.m.
  • Minimum: 4 persons
  • Maximum: 12 persons

At 8 a.m. we?ll meet at La Caba񡠦amp;amp; Incas. Once we sort our equipment, distribute maps and review some basic instructions, we?re off! We?ll head east out of Huancayo, taking back streets to avoid the traffic. Before leaving town we?ll stop to explore Parque de la Identidad, an artistic and architectural phenomenon. After a tour and explanation of the park we?ll follow hidden trails via Cullpa to the town of Cochas Chico, renowned for its expert gourd carving. The route to Cochas

is a gradual climb uphill. Once we reach the summit a panoramic view of Huancayo and the Mantaro Valley will be before us. Upon entering Cochas we?ll pay a visit to several artisans for an impressive demonstration of the gourd carving process. Visitors will be amazed by how the simplest of tools in the hands of a skilled craftsperson produces the most intricate design work. We?ll come away with a better understanding and deeper appreciation for the skill and dedication required for this artistic pursuit. From Cochas we?ll wind our way through Paccha and Hualahoyo, ultimately reaching the town of Hualhuas. In Hualhuas are some of the finest textile weavers in all of Peru. Here we will observe first-hand the traditional weaving techniques of the Andean region. To complete our cultural tour we?ll head to San Jeronimo, the center of silver filigree production. After a visit with some of the local artisans we?ll take lunch in a spot overlooking the Mantaro Valley. Following lunch it?s a 2-hour ride back to Huancayo, crossing the Mantaro River along the way, to complete our 45 km tour.
